Sphinx - Fulltext Search Engine - Part 1

It has been a few weeks after my first encounter with this Egyptian named gem called Sphinx. At first glance, it’s complicated when looking at an already made sphinx.conf. However, after careful redesigning and re-tinkering, it turns out to be one of the most flexible and yet light fulltext search engine available today. There are others but nothing as light, fast and sleek as Sphinx. The cold truth is that Sphinx is supporting SQL based databases as far as I know. Since Urbanesia is already using MySQL as our backend, we’re lucky. ...

Indonesia is Internet Literate - FOR SURE!

It has been a full week! Had a lot of code refactorings, Obama, #StartupLokal and most definitely inspiration. The more I explore the business of being online in Indonesia, the more I realized that Indonesia is a market unique, vast, consumptive and most importantly very open to new ideas. You can’t see how open Indonesia is offline-wise, in the online world, Indonesia is not only the next big thing, it is the big thing! ...

Upgrade Nexian Journey to Froyo - Cyanogen Mod 6.1

The first Cyanogen Mod build for Nexian Journey is quite the rush. By default, the CPU is forced to run at 800 MHz, that’s more than the 600 MHz capability of the phone. Luckily, the next build now defaults to 600 MHz and that’s the build I’m upgrading my phone with. The requirements to upgrade is the following: Upgrade your phone to Eclair if you're not already in Eclair. Steps to do so after the break. Download CMLMod 1.3 here for some Eclair love. You will need Clockwork recovery image after flashing CMLMod 1.3, download here. This is the best part, Cyanogen Mod 6.1 Build 7 for your Journey, download here. [UPDATE] Stable Release 6.1.1 here. Google Apps - MDPI here. A decent laptop/pc or a Mac with Parallels and Windows XP will do. Android Rom Upgrade Tools (RUT) and Drivers for 32 bit windows here, 64 bits windows here or both here. Fastboot windows, download here. Nowadays, rooting is a very easy task. It's already built into the recovery image, what else can you ask? Sorry I couldn’t give picture-by-picture step to upgrade your Journey, you’ll have to make do with plain text. Tweet me @tista if you need assistance. So here are the steps: ...

Thoughts of Grandeur - OOPS

Okay the title is a WTF right? To be honest, this blog post is inspired by one of the earliest episode of Heroes when Nathan and his Mom told Peter that he is having illusions of grandeur. Evidently, Peter became one of the most talented and gifted mutant of them all, he figured out how to gain any power he wants without killing the subject unlike Sylar lol. Well subjectively I must say that thinking BIG is a blessing. It gives you vision and therefore a purpose in whatever you are trying to achieve in the future. The right sense of purpose can bring you anywhere you want to be at any point in your lives. Everyone’s is welcomed to debate this point anytime :) ...

Killing Time - Android Apps Instead of Smoking

This few weeks, I’ve been actively downloading and using apps just to try them on and see which ones that’s enough to make my smoking habits go away for a while. Some of it are apps you only use occasionally while some are apps you’d definitely use everyday when it suits you. Basketball Shot - DroidHen This app is addictive because I like the sports and although now I rarely play, I like to go to Timezone and shoot some. Basketball Shot is exactly like the one I played in Timezone. Flick the ball with my thumbs and make a 3 pointer ;) Paper Toss I bet all of us have played this game. Things that makes you flick your thumbs is a definite hit right now lol. A must try if you haven't had the chance to play this game. Just don't play it at work, you're gonna loose a lot of time playing it. DildoDroid Yes you read it right! When you're an Android owner, you most likely like to brag about what an Android can do and you should brag about this app. It has multiple vibrator modes. I'm pretty sure you're gonna like the rhythmic pace that makes it vibrate on and off. You'll never know when you're gonna need it hahaha. Android Market Come on, it's where you find all these great apps! Install MarketEnabler if you're not in one of the countries privileged to have more apps shown. You can actually loose yourself downloading apps. AppAware Like Android Market but it's social. Get reviews from others and nearbys. I only have 1 suggestion, don't forget to unlink Twitter from AppAware if you're gonna install apps you don't want anyone to know hahahaha. Robo Defense FREE I tell stories about how this game made me embrace the autism in me. You will not want to be bothered when you're playing. The graphics is nothing fancy but the gameplay is just perfect. Just like Winning Eleven, just can't get enough of it! My Year Book Last but not least, this particular app and its website is an example to follow when you want to focus on user's engagements. The slogan: Friends, Flirts, Fun! Go ahead and install!! Ok that's just about it, now open up your Android Market. Smokers, you'd find this a healthy exit :)

Mobile App Analytics

We’ve all heard, used, tweaked and cherish Google Analytics either for its web or mobile web capabilities of serving us information about our visitors. So I’ve been wondering about a mobile app equivalent I can use with the exception of mobile ad networks. I came across Flurry a couple months ago and still using it until now. One of Flurry’s edge compared to other platforms is plainly and simply because it’s the most flexible and complete with a price tag 0 in any currency. For time being it doesn’t have any options for paid versions but they do say that in the future they will add paid features. ...

Rooting For Foxconn Chinadroid Devices is Painless - A688

Okay so I got myself a new Android gadget to play with and only recently looking for ways to root the device. It was bundled with 24 Gigs worth of data plan free for 1 year! Who wouldn’t want to tether the data stream right? Lucky for me, the device is actually from an OEM named Foxconn somewhere in China. People are already rooting their devices and I am up for some free data ;) ...

Android Dev Tip: Show Your "Invisible Apps" in Android Market

Aren’t you pissed when you’ve done all the codings and debugging only to find out after you pay $25, your apps didn’t show up at Android Market? Okay this particular issue has bugged me twice in the last 3 months and it’s suffice to say, I must share this with other developers who might be experiencing the same issue. Yes it’s the Urbanesia app I’m talking about :) Today was planned to release the app to Android Market. So I uploaded the app to my Market Publisher account and filled all the required info and graphics. I did a search with my Nexus One and it showed correctly. Asked for help with some friends using Samsung Spica and Motorola Droid, it showed correctly on their phones. After that, the Nexian Journey was next. It didn’t show up :( ...

Community Audio – Music – Part 3

Here I go again blogging about my own music. It’s been quite a while since I listen to any of the songs I wrote. The statistics at The Internet Archive - Community Audio is a welcomed surprise. This is also a premier blog post using Bit.ly Pro’s custom domain. So 1 day after 65 years of Indonesia, I’m in a old and new mood :) Starting off the list is a song I wrote when I was able to partly let go of someone but yeah, still wishing for something. The song is titled Kembalilah. Sung by Ina and recorded using my beloved PC named Gia. Nowadays when I listen to this song, Malaysia and my first apartment room there flashed into my mind. Those were the days lol. The song got over than 1300 downloads. ...
